BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) -- Several organizations came together in Bessemer to provide free food for people in need Friday afternoon.
The Jefferson County Family Resource Center and Grace Klein Community held a food box distribution at the Alabama Department of Human Resources office in Bessemer. The distribution happens twice a month in Jefferson County. Officials said there is an increased need for food throughout the community.
"At Grace Klein, I know that before COVID hit, we were feeding about 10,000 people every month," said Carla Phillips of Grace Klein Community. "We now feed about 19,000 people every week, so the need continues."
The next food box distribution will occur Aug. 23 at the Jefferson County Family Court.
