Sunday: The stalled cold front will remain positioned across the area with a continued threat for more showers and storms developing in the afternoon, lasting into the evening much like Saturday. However, the storms will be a little more widespread across the region with a few locations picking up locally heavy rain.
Looking Ahead: The stalled front will begin to lift north as a warm front on Monday and Tuesday, allowing for our greatest chance at widespread rain and storms for both afternoons. The humidity will begin to creep back up some while the temperatures remain fairly consistent in the lower to middle 90s. Heat index values will climb to near 100° for the rest of this weekend before rising back to around 105° on Monday, lasting into the rest of this week.
Tracking the Tropics: Tropical Storm Beryl will remain over open water in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday as it approaches the Gulf Coast. As the storm interacts with very warm ocean temperatures and weak to moderate wind shear, slight strengthening will be able to occur. However, this system is not forecast to get nearly as strong as it was earlier this week in the Caribbean. Beryl will make landfall along the Texas Gulf Coast just southwest of Houston on Monday before weakening considerably as it moves further inland. An increase in moisture midweek will allow for a continued rain chance here in Central Alabama, but no direct impacts are expected locally from Beryl.
