BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Bill "Bubba" Bussey announced his next step during the "Rick & Bubba Show" on Thursday.
Bussey revealed he accepted a job offer at Jacksonville State University to be an assistant athletic director in charge of athletic broadcasting. The "Rick & Bubba Show," which is produced by WZZK in Birmingham, is expected to end later in 2024 after debuting in 1994.
Bussey said he will work with Eli Gold, the former Alabama football play-by-play announcer who started calling Jacksonville State baseball games in the spring. Bussey will also assist the "Voice of the Gamecocks" Mike Parris, who's been behind the microphone at Jacksonville State since 1983.
Donnie Smith, Jacksonville State's assistant athletic director for media relations, stated Bussey will oversee all broadcast operations for in-house productions. Bussey will also help with events like coaches shows.
"It’s fantastic to be given the opportunity to serve my hometown and my alma mater, where I have so many fond memories," Bussey posted on Facebook.
