BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute celebrated the work of young scholars at the Woolfolk Gallery Tuesday night.

The Summer Scholars Symposium showcased the work of the BCRI's Legacy Youth Leadership, Legacy STEM Summer Enrichment and IMLS Intersectional Fellowship programs. The scholars' projects focused on research in environmental justice and human rights.

"This is serious work that we do here, not just as a museum but also as an institute," Samantha Elliott Briggs with the BCRI said. "We want people to see that knowledge is year-round, that knowledge is cross-cultural. We want people to learn from the perspective of the students."
