MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) — A man accused of placing an explosive device outside the Alabama Attorney General's office earlier this year is set to plead guilty in the case.
Last week, attorneys representing Kyle Calvert of Irondale filed a notice that he would be changing his plea from not guilty to guilty.
On Feb. 26, a suspicious package was located near the intersection of Washington Avenue and South Bainbridge Street in downtown Montgomery. Detectives with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency determined that the package had been detonated earlier that weekend when no one was near the building.
On April 10, Calvert was arrested and charged with malicious use of an explosive and possession of an unregistered destructive device.
Calvert, who has never publicly commented on why he allegedly placed the package near the AG's office, faces between five to 20 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
No hearing has been set for when Calvert will be sentenced.
