BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The high school football season is right around the corner in Alabama with many local teams getting in the grind of fall camp.

Ahead of the 2024 season, local athletes are making it known where their next stop will be ahead of the senior season. One stand-out player is Thompson High School safety Anqoun Fegans, who committed to play football at Auburn University this past Monday.

Fegans is ranked the second-best safety by ESPN for the Class of 2025 and ranked third in Alabama regardless of position.

The four-star safety chose Auburn over Georgia, LSU and Clemson. Fegans is confident he made the right decision due to all the progress heading into the program's year two under Coach Hugh Freeze.

"Those guys are doing something special down there,” Fegans said. “A lot of people are doubting them because of his first year but don't worry, we are coming and I am excited to come in and handle business.”

In just three seasons playing for the Warriors, Fegans has posted 146 tackles and 18 interceptions. One of eight children, he will attend Auburn with his older brother while his other brother plays football at UCF.
