Continue to be Weather Aware for dangerous heat on Thursday and Friday

Thursday & Friday: The heat dome will stay in place for Thursday. This will keep Central Alabama very hot and humid with only a few showers. High temperatures will be in the middle 90s. The heat index will be dangerous as it sits around 105-110°. Find ways to stay cool and hydrated! Another Heat Advisory is in effect.

On Friday, the heat dome of high pressure will start to break down. We will still be very hot and humid, but there will be a little better chance for spotty storms in the afternoon as a cold front moves into North Alabama. Highs stay in the middle 90s, and the heat index is 105-110°.

Weekend Outlook: The weather pattern starts to change this weekend. The heat dome will continue to weaken and move to the west. A trough of low pressure will move over the eastern U.S. and send a weak cold front into Alabama Saturday morning. Saturday will still be hot and humid, but there will be scattered storms. Not everyone will see rain. High temperatures will be in the lower to middle 90s, and the heat index will be 100-105°+. Sunday will be partly cloudy, hot, and humid with only a few pop-up storms in the afternoon/evening. Highs will be in the lower 90s, and the heat index will be around 105°.

Tracking the Tropics: A tropical wave east of the Lesser Antilles remains disorganized. Conditions are forecast to become more favorable for development near The Bahamas and Cuba by this weekend. A tropical depression could form near the Greater Antilles to The Bahamas or Florida. NHC is giving this system a medium chance to develop.

Forecast models hint at this system may move into the Eastern Gulf of Mexico early next week as a tropical wave. However, it may try to develop off the west coast of Florida, IF it develops at all. There is A LOT of uncertainty and there is plenty of time to watch this system.
