Weather Aware Wednesday and Thursday for Dangerous Heat and Humidity
Wednesday & Thursday: A heat dome, or upper-level area of high pressure, will sit over the Southern Plains States on Wednesday. Alabama will be on the eastern edge of it. We will be partly cloudy, hot, and humid with only a stray shower/storm possible. High temperatures will be in the middle 90s, and the heat index will be between 105-110°.
A Heat Advisory is in effect until 9 PM with the heat index over 105° for all of Central Alabama.
The heat dome will stay in place for Thursday. This will keep Central Alabama very hot and humid with only a few showers. High temperatures will be in the middle 90s. The heat index will be dangerous as it sits around 105-110°. Find ways to stay cool and hydrated! Another Heat Advisory will be in place.
Friday & The Weekend: On Friday, the heat dome of high pressure will start to break down. We will still be very hot and humid, but there will be a little better chance for spotty storms in the afternoon. Highs stay in the middle 90s, and the heat index is 105-110°.
The weather pattern starts to change this weekend. The heat dome will continue to weaken and move to the west. A trough of low pressure will move over the eastern U.S. and send a weak cold front into Alabama. Saturday and Sunday will still be hot and humid, but we will have scattered storms popping up. High temperatures will be in the lower to middle 90s, and the heat index will be 100-105°+.
Tracking the Tropics: A tropical wave east of the Lesser Antilles is producing limited showers due to dry air. Conditions are forecast to become more favorable for development and a tropical depression could form as it approaches the Greater Antilles to Bahamas later this week. NHC is giving this system a medium chance to develop.
