SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) -- A Shelby County Jail inmate was pronounced dead Friday morning.
According to Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Phillip Ledford, 55, of Pelham, was arrested for first-degree robbery on Feb. 21. He was transported to Shelby County Jail and authorities say he was assessed by on-site medical staff and housed in the medical unit, where he remained during his time at jail.
Sheriff John Samaniego says Ledford was found around 7:16 a.m. in medical distress. Ledford was pronounced dead at 7:53 a.m.
An autopsy has been requested by authorities.
