2 arrested following police pursuit in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) -- Two people were arrested after attempting to flee during a traffic stop and leading deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office on a high-speed pursuit Monday.

According to the JCSO, deputies with the Sheriff's Enforcement Team and Center Point Patrol tried to make a traffic stop on a vehicle at 13th Avenue NW and 2nd Street NW. As a deputy approached the vehicle, the driver sped away, resulting in a pursuit.

The pursuit ended in the 4000 block of 49th Court North after the vehicle hit a curb and left the road. The driver and a passenger fled on foot, and the driver was quickly taken into custody by deputies. The passenger was located in the 4100 block of 49th Terrace N., and he was taken into custody without incident.

The first suspect was identified at Damonta Brooks, 28, who was charged with attempting to elude a police officer, second-degree possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, receiving stolen property and obstructing justice by using a fake ID card. Brooks was released from the Jefferson County Jail after posting $55,000 bond.

Cameron Dejuan Blanding, 32, was charged with attempting to elude a police officer and unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle. Blanding is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on $20,000 bond.

The case remains under investigation.
