BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT)-- With wildfires burning across the state, the Alabama Forestry Commission has stopped issuing burn permits through Tuesday.
Alabama State Forester Rick Oates said that over 200 fires were reported between Friday and Sunday, with around 57 more on Monday. Low humidity and high winds are two factors contributing to the spread of fire.
These risk factors prompted the AFC to suspend the issuing of burn permits through Tuesday. If conditions improve, they can be issued starting Wednesday. Oates says the most important thing is not burning things while these conditions are active.
"Please do not burn anything outside for the next few days," Oates said. "Our guys and ladies have been fighting fires and they are tired, and we don't need any accidental fires getting set. It's too dangerous right now."
