BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Business owners met in Birmingham for the 21st annual A.G. Gaston Conference on Tuesday.
Organizers featured a spotlight on Black journalists. Several longtime journalists, including CBS 42 evening news anchor Sherri Jackson, received a special recognition for covering Birmingham. Jackson thanks Gaston conference co-founders Bob Dickerson and Gaynelle Jackson for the honor.
Hundreds of people turned out Red Mountain Theatre for the conference. The sold-out event provided an opportunity for attendees to network and learn about Gaston's legacy. Business owners and community connected for empowerment.
"I think he would be honored that folks have taken their time out, taking a day out, to sort of celebrate him," Dickerson said. "But I think he would challenge us to do better. I think he would challenge us to work harder, to be more disciplined, to use his principles to grow our company."
The conference also had copies of the newest edition of "Green Power," Gaston's autobiography, available for purchase.
