Weather Aware Tonight through Friday Morning for Frigid Temperatures

Tonight: The Arctic Blast arrives across Central Alabama. It will become clear and stay windy. We will have near-record low temperatures fall to the teens. The record is 16 set in 1958. The wind chill will be 5-10°. There could be icy spots on roads across North Alabama if the wind does not dry them out.

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for the wind chill in the single digits across Central Alabama.

Thursday will be a blustery day, but we will have plenty of sunshine. High pressure will be northwest of Alabama sending down the Arctic Air. High temperatures will be in the lower to middle 30s. The wind chill is in the 20s. It is possible that many areas of Central and Northern Alabama will not get above freezing for more than 24 hours. This is pipe-bursting cold. Protect pipes, blooming plants, pets, and people.

Thursday night will be clear and frigid with record lows in the teens. The record is 18 set in 1963, and we could tie or break it. The wind chill will be around 10°. Bundle up! Another Cold Weather Advisory will be in effect.

Friday will be another frigid day with sunshine as high pressure builds across the Southeast U.S. It will be slightly warmer with high temperatures climbing into the lower 40s.

Weekend Outlook: We can start to defrost this weekend. High pressure will move northeast of Alabama bringing in warmer easterly winds. Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny and warmer with highs in the lower to middle 50s. The warming trend continues early next week with more sunshine and highs in the 60s.
