BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Jimmie Hale Mission is setting up a warming station to make sure no one is without shelter Wednesday evening.
They’ve set up about 40 cots inside the chapel and Executive Director Perryn Carroll says they are ready to take in about 150 guests Wednesday evening.
Carroll says they can fit about 29 cots into the TV room. Male guests will sleep on cots in the chapel and dining room area.
She says that no one will be turned away in the extreme cold:
“It’s not just a matter of convenience,” said Carroll, “This is a matter of life and death when temperatures get this extreme in our area and it’s a wet cold.”

The Jimmie Hale Mission’s warming station stays in touch with Firehouse Ministries where they plan to set up cots in an overflow room.
“It takes a village, literally, and we cannot do it by ourselves, “ said Kay Hatcher, the Shelter Coordinator at Firehouse Ministries.
At about 5 p.m. Wednesday evening they’ll push back the tables and set up about 14 cots in the chapel. If they need additional cots, they’ll reach out to the Jimmie Hale Mission for assistance. They have vans available that can transport guests.
The Jimmie Hale Mission now allows guests to bring dogs, which they tested for the first time back in January.
