BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The NCAA Division I men's basketball committee revealed Auburn and Alabama as No. 1 seeds in its NCAA tournament bracket preview Saturday.
Auburn received the top overall seed. Alabama was selected as the No. 2 overall program. Duke and Florida rounded out the No. 1 seeds in the March Madness preview.
The Tigers and the Crimson Tide have seven regular season games remaining, including two against each other, before the SEC tournament. Selection Sunday for the NCAA tournament will be held March 16.
Auburn is 22-2 overall and 10-1 in SEC play, while Alabama is 21-3 in total games and 10-1 versus conference foes. The first of two Iron Bowl of basketball contests in the 2024-25 season will take place in Tuscaloosa at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Other SEC programs would be in the top 16 overall seeds if March Madness started Saturday. Tennessee and Texas A&M were chosen as No. 2 seeds. Kentucky would be a No. 3 seed.
All seedings are subject to change until the field of 68 teams is finalized on Selection Sunday.
