BLOUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) -- Blountsville Police Chief Shane Best has resigned from his post after being placed on paid leave in early January.
On January 7, Best was given a letter stating Blountsville intended to lay him off because of the financial condition of the town. A week later, the town council changed its position saying Best was on leave pending a disciplinary due process hearing.
When asked why the council changed its position, Blountsville Council Member Ray Baxley said "just based on new information that came into us, new evidence we uncovered. So, that’s the reason that we changed that."
In a statement announcing Best's resignation, Blountsville Mayor Danny Baker said "no findings of wrongdoing have been made by Town Council against Chief Best. As such, a due process hearing is no longer necessary."
Best's resignation is effective immediately.
