CLANTON, Ala. (WIAT) -- Two people were killed in a Clanton fire Sunday morning.
According to the Clanton Police Department, officers and firefighters were dispatched around 6:30 a.m. to a structure fire call at 1135 Duren Rd. At the scene, first responders discovered that a single-family residence was on fire and that there were three people inside it when it started.
Clanton police wrote that one of those people escaped the fire and received medical treatment. The other two people who were in the residence died. The CPD and the Alabama Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire, but the CPD wrote the fire is thought to be a "horrible accident."
The CPD will not publicly identify the fire victims until family members are notified. Police stated it will release more information when it becomes available.
