Weather Aware Through Tuesday Night
Winter Weather Advisory For Parts of Central Alabama

Snow Day Tuesday: A Low will move east across the Northern Gulf of Mexico, but it will be farther south than the one we saw on January 10th. That means most of the precipitation will stay south of I-20 and Birmingham, and plenty of dry air will move in from the north. High temperatures will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s, so this will be all snow.

The snow will end on Tuesday night leaving Alabama with clouds. It will remain very cold with lows in the single digits to 10s. The wind chill will be around 5-10 degrees.

Snow totals: little to no snow is expected north of I-20. We will only have a few snow flurries/showers accumulating to a dusting on the grass, rooftops, cars, and other elevated surfaces. Between I-20 and U.S. 80/I-85 snow will accumulate around 0.5" to maybe 1" in places like Auburn, Montgomery, Selma, and Linden. From U.S. 80/I-85 south to the Gulf Coast and Wiregrass regions, 2-4 inches of snow is possible in cities like Chatom, Jackson, Greeneville, Troy, and Eufala. A band of 3-6" or more possible across the far southern end of the state, from Mobile, Bayou La Batre, Gulf Shores, Brewton, Andalusia, Opp, and Dothan. This will be a historic snowstorm for the Gulf Coast. The record for single day snowfall in Mobile is 5" set back in 1881, and there's a small chance that record is in jeopardy today. Pensacola's record of 2.3" set back in 1954 is certainly in jeopardy with at least 2-4" of snow likely there.

Wednesday morning could see icy spots with a clear sky. It will be sunny in the afternoon with high temperatures climbing into the upper 30s. The sunshine will warm up the roads so any ice will melt and the roads will dry out.

High pressure will build across the Southeast U.S. on Thursday and Friday. We will not be as cold with plenty of sunshine and highs in the middle 40s. The lows will be in the 20s.
Weekend Outlook: The warming trend will continue into the weekend ahead of a cold front with southerly winds. Saturday will be partly cloudy with highs in the 50s. Sunday will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Highs will be in the 50s.
