BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Birmingham Police Department announced Monday the arrest of a 21-year-old man in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred Friday.
Amont'e Demond Jones, of Birmingham, was arrested after BPD detectives obtained warrants for discharging a firearm into an occupied or unoccupied dwelling, second-degree assault and murder. Jones is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.
Officers found two adults suffering from gunshot wounds in the 600 block of 26th Street Southwest on Friday. A man was found lying in the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene. A woman was taken to the hospital for not life-threatening injuries. The deceased victim was identified as Jeshaun Chambers, 24, of Fairfield.
While on the scene, officers were alerted that a third victim had arrived at a hospital suffering from a not life-threatening gunshot wound. According to the BPD, at least two of the victims were acquaintances. Police believe that a verbal altercation preceded the shooting.
During the investigation, the BPD determined Jones was the third person injured during the shooting and was a suspect. He was taken into custody after receiving medical treatment for his injury.
