FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly shooting that took place in the Florence Police Department's parking lot.
The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. when Florence Police Chief Mike Holt said a man called 911 and told the operator that he was going to shoot the police department up.
Holt said the man came to the police department and began shooting. Officers returned fire, killing the man.
"Very close to home," Holt said. "But, that's the world we are in."
Holt confirmed that no officers were injured during the shooting.
The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation and Holt said there is no active threat to the community.
Sheriff Joe Hamilton said he expects to release more information about the case on Thursday.
