TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) -- A 15-year-old student was taken into custody after they were allegedly found with a weapon at Paul W. Bryant High School on Tuesday.
According to spokesperson Stephanie Taylor with the Tuscaloosa Police Department, a faculty member alerted the school resource officer Tuesday afternoon that a student was discovered with a weapon. That student, who police did not identify, is charged with certain persons forbidden from possessing a firearm.
"At approximately 1:50pm today, a student was found in possession of a weapon on campus at Paul W. Bryant High School," stated Lydia Avant, public relations director for Tuscaloosa City Schools. "The Tuscaloosa Police Department was notified immediately and both Bryant and Eastwood Middle School were put on a state of heightened awareness while the student was apprehended. The situation was quickly resolved and all students and staff are safe."
