IRONDALE, Ala. (WIAT) -- Gov. Kay Ivey has ordered flags to be lowered at half-staff on Thursday, Jan. 9 in honor of Lt. Mark Meadows of the Irondale Police Department.
Meadows died in the line of duty on Jan. 6 after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic for the Church of the Highlands.
Meadows served in the United States Army as a member of the 3rd Ranger Battalion, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Benning, Georgia. In 1992, he joined the Mountain Brook Police Department. later joined the Irondale Police force, where he served for over three decades.
"Lt. Meadows’ loss weighs heavy on the Irondale community and across our state," Gov. Ivey said in a statement. "I join all Alabamians in mourning Lt. Meadows’ passing and praying for his family, friends and colleagues. We will never forget his sacrifice."
