Alabama Sen. Katie Britt named deputy whip for Republican-controlled Senate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- U.S. Senator Katie Britt has been named deputy whip for the Senate.

Britt, who was first elected to office in 2023, was named by new Majority Whip Sen. John Barrasso, of Wyoming. As deputy whip, Britt will be one of 10 Senators to back up Barrasso as part of the Republican majority to push President Donald Trump's agenda through.

“I am honored Senator Barrasso chose me to join his team as one of the deputy whips. Our new Senate Republican majority has a tremendous opportunity to get things done and enact President Trump’s agenda. As deputy whip, I am excited to help unite our conference and make a difference in the lives of hardworking Americans,” Britt said in a statement.

In his statement, Barrasso called Britt a "fearless fighter for families and forgotten Americans."

"Her guiding principle is opportunity for all, especially our children," Barrasso said. "She works every day in the Senate to save our country and pass along a brighter future to the next generation. Katie is an incredible advocate for family-first solutions.”

Other Senators named deputy whip include Sens. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.),
John Cornyn (R-Texas), Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and Todd Young (R-Ind.).
