BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Former Senator Doug Jones joined CBS 42 Morning News Monday morning to discuss President Joe Biden dropping out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris.
Biden, 81, announced he was ending his reelection campaign Sunday afternoon and would address the nation later in the week about his decision.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden wrote in a letter posted to social media.
"I have said for a month now that I thought the president would make the decision that he believes is in the best interest for the country and I think he absolutely did that," Jones said on Biden's choice to end his reelection bid.
Biden's decision comes following weeks of mounting pressure to step aside after his debate performance on June 27 against Donald Trump.
