BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Three men are charged in connection to a June Birmingham shooting that left a man dead and two others injured.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, Cameron Scales, Rico Pickett and Keion McClure are all charged with capital murder (victim in vehicle) in relation to Martavius Williams' death. The suspects are also facing attempted murder charges. The Jefferson County Magistrate's Office issued arrest warrants against the three suspects in December after BPD homicide detectives presented case information.
The shooting happened June 15 in the 8200 block of First Avenue North. At that time, the BPD reported officers were dispatched around 7:40 p.m. to a ShotSpotter notification at that location.
Police saw two wrecked vehicles on the road by East Lake Park's First Avenue North entrance. They also discovered another vehicle that went through the park's fence line and was stopped in the park.
When police took a closer look at that vehicle, they saw a man and a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. They also observed Williams unresponsive in the vehicle. Williams, who was shot, died at the scene. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel took the man and woman, who sustained life-threatening injuries, to UAB Hospital.
At the scene, officers did not find the occupants of the other two vehicles. The BPD stated its preliminary investigation showed at least one person from each vehicle found may have been in a shootout with each other.
While driving to the shooting scene, officers found a two-car collision in the 8300 block of First Avenue North. Police do not think those vehicles were involved in the shootout and stated the crash could have been caused by one of the drivers fleeing the shooting.
Scales, an 18-year-old from Bessemer, has been in the Jefferson County Jail since October when he was arrested in connection to a May homicide. Pickett, 21, was taken into custody at his Dolomite residence Thursday. McClure, 22, of Center Point, was arrested in the 9200 block of Parkway East on Friday.
All suspects are being held in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
