OHATCHEE, Ala. (WIAT) -- A woman police believed to have been abducted in Calhoun County on Tuesday morning has been found safe.
Ohatchee police said that around 5 p.m. Tuesday, 36-year-old Brandy Brooks turned herself into police.
"She was not even aware at the time that she had been reported missing," said Ohatchee Police Chief Alan Kelly. "That’s what led her to call us once she started getting text messages and stuff. She didn’t have service on her phone.”
Ohatchee police said that around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers were sent to a domestic situation on Spring Road. Officers were told Brooks had been taken against her will, which led to a statewide search that involved over a dozen agencies.
"Something that could have been a very sad outcome is a happy outcome," Kelly said. "We appreciate everybody involved with giving any information they could give us. Some of it was very small and minute to them, but it was very large to us.”
Kelly would not say whether the investigation was still being considered an abduction or if any arrests were going to be made in the case.
"At this time, I’m not 100% sure the involvement with everybody," Kelly said. "There were multiple people that were involved that were at that residence."
Ohatchee police said more details will be released as the investigation wraps up.
