BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A pre-filed bill would restrict drag performances in Alabama and place limitations on state-sponsored overnight programs.
HB67, presented by state Rep. Scott Stadthagen (R-Hartselle), would prevent public K-12 schools and public libraries from hosting or sponsoring drag performances in the presence of minors without consent from the minors’ respective parents or guardians.
The bill would also prohibit minors from sharing certain facilities with individuals of the opposite sex during state-sponsored overnight programs unless the individuals are members of the same family or if the minor has received approval from a parent or guardian to do so. These facilities would include bathrooms, changing facilities and sleeping quarters.
If passed, the legislation would become effective in October 2025.
