BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Alabama football signee Keelon Russell was named the 2024-25 National Gatorade Football Player of the Year on Wednesday.
Russell, a 6-foot-4 quarterback from Duncanville, Texas, has thrown for 3,652 yards and 52 touchdowns while completing over 70% of his passes. He's ranked as the No. 2 overall prospect, according to 247Sports. Russell is the first Alabama signee to win the award.
He was committed to SMU but flipped to the Crimson Tide. Russell signed with Alabama on Dec. 4. The Crimson Tide currently have the No. 2 recruiting class in the country, per 247Sports.
