BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Police Department is on the scene of a homicide investigation in the 4200 block of 5th Avenue South.
According to public information officer Truman Fitzgerald, officers responded to a person shot call at an apartment complex in the area at around 4:40 p.m. An adult female was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fitzgerald stated a person of interest was detained and is being transported to BPD Headquarters for questioning.
Additionally, BPD is requesting a search warrant for one of the units at the complex connected to the case. Fitzgerald said "a lot of unknowns" and "unanswered questions" currently surround the investigation.
