HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) -- Hoover High School has removed the interim tag and officially named Chip English as head football coach.

English was named interim head coach back in August following the resignations of head coach Drew Gilmer and defensive coordinator Adam Helms.

While serving as interim head coach English led the Bucs to a 10-3 record.

“This season, his ability to inspire our players, unite our staff, and engage with the community has been nothing short of remarkable. He has proven his capacity to lead Hoover football with excellence, and we are excited about the future under his guidance," said Hoover High School Athletic Director Dr. Harley Lamey.

“Hoover High School represents the pinnacle of high school football, and it’s an incredible honor to lead this program,” English said. “I’m excited about what lies ahead as we continue to build on this legacy. I am grateful for the trust and support of our players, staff, and the entire Hoover community.”

Gilmer and Helms were initially placed on administrative leave following footage of the coaches pushing players during a practice. One part of the video showed a coach thrusting his hips toward a player’s face while he was on the ground. Another showed a coach rushing at a player, knocking him down with his helmet coming off his head.
