BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) — The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash involving a Jefferson County School district bus and a pickup truck along Mulga Loop Road just south of Adamsville Friday morning.
John Huddleston, the PIO for Jefferson County Schools says there were five individuals onboard the school bus for exceptional education students. Three were students, who did not appear to be injured, and a driver and student aide who suffered minor injuries.
All five individuals went to the hospital as a precaution, according to the school district.
Two of the students attend Minor High School and one attends Minor Middle School in Adamsville.
Clay Hendon, a Battalion Chief with Birmingham Fire and Rescue says there were two individuals inside the pickup truck. The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Friday afternoon CBS42 News stopped by two nearby businesses in Adamsville.
Randy Allen, the owner of ALL-EN One BBQ Soul Food says he learned about the crash from an employee who called in to let him know she was running late due to the traffic back up caused by the accident.
“I mean my heart was just pounding, it still is," Allen said. "My heart goes out to the parents, as well as the kids.”
