BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - It was a cold, breezy night for football, but fans toughed it out at the Super 7 high school football championships to cheer on their teams.
Families bundled up for Thursday night’s Super 7 game between the Moody Blue Devils and the Montgomery Catholic Knights.
"The lady taking the tickets said, ‘y’all must have family playing because I don’t know if I would have come if we didn’t,’" Moody fan Loni Hodge said. "But I think when you want to support the kids and what they love, you’ll do whatever.”
"We’re feeling like we’re back home in New York,” Montgomery Catholic fan Chris Riello said.
"This feels like home," Knights fan Tom Riello said. "We’re used to the wind and all that, but when I’m in Alabama, I don’t like it too much.”
From Hot Hands to blankets, fans weren’t going to let anything stop them from being at the game.
"My son is here and the team and the coaches. I love these kids," Knights dad Kenneth Bell said. "We’re a tight knit community and we just love sports in Montgomery.”
"We’re having a good time," Blue Devils fan Marissa Cordts said. "The girls are having fun and everybody’s cheering so we came to support for Moody.”
There’s one more night of Super 7, and fans should prepare for it to be just as cold as Thursday night at Protective Stadium.
