BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) — A contract employee at Bullock Correctional Facility was one of two people arrested after prison officials allegedly found different drugs in a car she was in that failed to stop at a checkpoint near the prison.

On Wednesday, agents from the Alabama Department of Corrections Law
Enforcement Services Division conducted a vehicle checkpoint near the Bullock Correctional Facility, where a driver had been seen trying to evade the checkpoint.

After stopping the car, K-9 officers found 1 gram of methamphetamine, 30 grams of marijuana, and 5 grams of cocaine in the car. Desiree Wells, a contract employee at the prison who was in the car, and driver Quincy Martin were both arrested.

Wells has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, while Martin was charged with possession of a controlled substance and first-degree possession of marijuana.

There has been no information released on whether the drugs were being taken into the prison or out. It is not known what duties Wells performed at the prison.

The case remains under investigation.
