BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) — Trey Anastasio, guitarist and founding member of the seminal jam band Phish, will be coming to Birmingham this spring for a special acoustic performance.
Anastasio, whose work with the three-piece band has earned accolades since first forming in 1983, will play at the Alabama Theatre on March 22. Tickets go on sale Friday.
Despite the lack of commercial airplay, Phish has grown into one of the most popular jam bands in the country, selling 8 million albums and touring to packed stadiums across the country, including yearly stays at Madison Square Garden in New York City. In April, Phish played a sold-out, four-night residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas, which was critically acclaimed for its visual display specifically designed for the venue, as well as the vast body of work that the band culled from during shows. Phish was the second band to perform at the venue, following U2.
In addition to his work with Phish, Anastasio has performed alongside acts like Dave Matthews Band, Khruangbin, Neil Young, Goose, Tedeschi Trucks Band and his own solo band, the Trey Anastasio Band.
