TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) -- Former Crimson Tide head football coach Nick Saban will be inducted into the Alabama Business Hall of Fame in November.

Saban, who won six national championships while leading Alabama for 17 seasons, retired from coaching in January. The University of Alabama announced Thursday that Saban is one of the seven inductees for the hall of fame's 2024 class.

A West Virgina native, Saban was a defensive at Kent State University in the early 1970s. Saban earned a bachelor's degree in business and a master's degree in sports administration from the Ohio institution.

Saban was an assistant coach at several college programs before serving as the University of Toldeo's head coach in 1990. He was the defensive coordinator for the NFL's Cleveland Browns from 1991-94.

The now 72-year-old was named the head coach at Michigan State University for the 1995 campaign and stayed there through 1999. He was Louisiana State University's head coach from 2000- 2004, winning his first national championship in 2003.

Saban returned to the NFL in 2005 for the Miami Dolphins' head coaching post. He did not last long in South Florida, as he accepted the Alabama job for the 2007 season.

Saban finished his tenure at Alabama with a 201-29 record. Running backs Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry, wide receiver DeVonta Smith and quarterback Bryce Young all became Heisman Trophy winners under the direction of Saban in Tuscaloosa. Saban was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.

After retiring from coaching, Saban was named an analyst for ESPN's "College GameDay." He is a co-owner of Dream Motor Group, which runs Mercedes-Benz dealerships in Alabama, Florida, Tennesse, Louisiana and Texas.

Saban and his wife Terry Saban co-founded the Nick's Kids Foundation. The charitable organization has donated over $14 million to help children, teacher and student causes in and out of Alabama.

The induction ceremony will happen in Birmingham on Nov. 14. For information on the other six inductees, click here. Hewson Hall at the UA holds the Alabama Business Hall of Fame.
