IRONDALE, Ala. (WIAT) -- Irondale Mayor James D. Stewart, Jr. will host Irondale's "Polar Express Adventure" Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting on Friday, Dec. 6.
The parade, which starts at 6 p.m., will begin at Irondale Community School. The parade route will end at Irondale City Hall, where the tree lighting will take place at 7:30 p.m.
More than 40 groups will participate in the parade, including the Shades Valley High School Marching Band, all City departments, local churches, local businesses and community groups.
The event at Irondale City Hall will feature free photos with Santa and Mrs. Clause, free hot chocolate and caroling before Mayor Stewart flips the switch to light the city's 20-foot-tall Christmas tree.
The Irondale Storybook Walk, located near Irondale Community School, is currently featuring Chris Van Allsburg's "The Polar Express." Guests are invited to walk through and read the book throughout December.
“With Irondale’s deep roots as a train city, we’re excited to bring the magic of the Polar Express to our community,” stated Mayor Stewart. “We are looking forward to kicking off the holiday season with a grand celebration for all to enjoy.”
