One Class at a Time presented by Chick-fil-A of Birmingham.
For 22 years, CBS 42 has been proud to present local teachers with $1,000 grants through its One Class at a Time program, honoring the educators who work tirelessly to make a positive impact on the children of Central Alabama.
This week, CBS 42’s Kristen McIntosh, the Chick-fil-A cow and Chick-fil-A of Birmingham representatives set out to Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, Ala. to honor ninth grade English teacher, Coraetta Towns-Oliver.
Passionate about the written word and how it impacts her students' written and spoken communication skills, Towns-Oliver applied for the One Class Grant in hopes of expanding her classroom’s technological resources.
“Having computers inside my classroom would help me work closely with my students in preparation to benchmark for English and Writing ACT tests,” said Towns-Oliver. “It’ll also help me work with my ESL students by giving them interactive and translation services.”
Towns-Oliver wants to give her students an outlet through writing, helping them discover and foster their passions, as well as giving them a safe space to express themselves.
