BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Upgrades are coming to the piazza space between Legacy Arena and the BJCC Concert Hall.
The Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center Authority Board of Directors awarded a nearly $4 million contract for renovations Wednesday. BJCC Executive Director and CEO Tad Snider said renovations will include creating a park-like space with grass, plants and a water feature to make it more inviting to visitors.
"Just take that area that has really been underutilized for years, a little bit of a dated design, and make it more responsive to what our consumers expect today, and make it something that's an asset that people enjoy before and after an event," Snider said.
Construction is set to start by the end of the year and be finished by the middle of the next summer, Snider said.
