BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The parents of a teenager who was killed in a shooting on campus during Tuskegee University's homecoming are suing the school.
Larry and Tamika Johnson, parents of 18-year-old La'Tavion Johnson, filed a lawsuit against Tuskegee on Tuesday, claiming that negligence on the staff's part led to a mass shooting that led to his death, as well as another person and 10 others injured.
Among the people specifically named in the complaint were former TU Police Chief Terrance Calloway, who resigned following the shooting, International Protections Investigation Agency owner Reginald Brown and Jaquez Myrick, who has been arrested and charged with using an illegally converted machine gun.
"Despite a number of prior violent occurrences, including the previous discharge of
firearms, physical threats and acts of physical violence, the Defendants, Tuskegee University, IPIA,
JLL, Calloway and Brown allowed the possession of firearms on the campus of Tuskegee
University," the lawsuit stated.
Along with Myrick, Jeremiah Williams has also been arrested and faces federal charges of possessing a machine gun.
Tuskegee University has not responded to the lawsuit.
