BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- There were four reported shootings in Birmingham from Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning that left three people dead and two injured.

According to Birmingham Police Department Sgt. LaQuitta Wade, the first shooting was reported after 7 p.m. when a person was found shot inside a vehicle in the 3100 block of 26th Street. The vehicle crashed into a pole and part of a building hosting a Family Dollar.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel transported the victim, who suffered life-threatening injuries, to UAB Hospital. Police believe the victim was shot in the area of the Marathon gas station in the 3400 block of 26th Street North before driving to the 3100 block.

Around 9:50 p.m., a 17-year-old male sustained life-threatening injuries when they were shot near Woodlawn High school. Police were dispatched to a person shot call in the 5600 block of First Avenue North, which is where the high school is located and discovered the teen in the passenger seat of a vehicle unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel took the juvenile to UAB Hospital.

The BPD's preliminary investigation shows the 17-year-old was in a verbal fight while leaving a Woodlawn High School basketball game. The 17-year-old and a friend were trying to leave 54th Street and Second Avenue North in their vehicle when an unknown suspect fired shots into the vehicle. The driver drove to Woodlawn High School for help, but the suspect fled in an unknown vehicle. There is no one in custody in connection to the shooting.

At around 10:29 p.m., officers received a report of a vehicle on the sidewalk in front of an abandoned house in the 1300 block of Princeton Avenue SW. At the scene, police found a young adult male and teenaged female inside the vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. They died at the scene. Wade said a passerby observed the vehicle, which bullet holes, slowly rolling back before coming to a stop.

Officers were then dispatched to a person shot call in the 6800 block of 68th Street South around 2:13 a.m. Wednesday. Just after 2 a.m., ShotSpotter recorded 14 gunshots in the area. Police entered a residence in the block and found a man lying on the floor unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was later identifed as Arlington Jerome Daniel, 50, of Birmingham. He is the victim of Birmingham's 127th murder investigation of 2024.

Wade stated police think there was a gathering inside the house when a fight happened. Shots were from outside and inside the residence, with gunfire fatally wounding Daniel. Some people who were at the scene when the shooting occurred cooperated with homicide detectives.

Anyone with information regarding any of the cases are urged to call the BPD at 205-254-1764 or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
