BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) — Jefferson County voters have selected Kelvin Datcher as their Democratic candidate for House District 52's upcoming fall election.
Tuesday night's runoff election results show Datcher won the majority vote against fellow candidate Frank Woodson. Unofficial results from the Secretary of State's website tally Datcher's 831 votes (55.18%) against Woodson's 675 votes (44.82%) out of a total of 1,506.
Datcher will face Republican contender Carlos Crum during House District 52's general election on Oct. 1.
The seat was left empty after former Representative John Rogers resigned in March due to pleading guilty to wire and mail fraud and obstruction of justice. Both Datcher and Woodson were first-time candidates.
