TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) -- For the University of Alabama Museums' 2024 John S. Steiner Endowed Lecture, UA will host a free public presentation on Cherokee Cave Inscriptions on Saturday, Nov. 9.
The presentation will be given by Dr. Jan Simek in room 1001 of the university's Math and Science Education Building at 11 a.m.
Simek and his team have made national news following their cave art discoveries in north Alabama caves. Their discoveries include written Cherokee inscriptions and Cherokee art in Alabama's Manitou Cave, which mark the first Cherokee inscriptions to ever be found in a cave.
Following the presentation, guests are invited to attend a reception at the Alabama Museum of Natural History's Grand Gallery.
