BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A man who was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking in the roadway was identified Friday morning.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the pedestrian, 60-year-old Gregory Paul Mallett, was walking in the roadway near 401 Daniel Payne Drive when he was struck by a vehicle around 7:16 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene roughly five minutes after the crash.
The driver of the vehicle who hit him stayed at the scene and contacted police.
The Birmingham Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash at this time.
