BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A 60-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed while walking in a roadway in Birmingham Wednesday evening.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office, the pedestrian, whose name is being withheld until his family is notified, was walking in the roadway near 401 Daniel Payne Drive when he was struck by a vehicle around 7:16 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene roughly five minutes after the crash.
The driver of the vehicle who hit him stayed at the scene and contacted police.
The Birmingham Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash at this time.
