ALABASTER, Ala. (WIAT) -- A 31-year-old man was arrested on four counts of first-degree theft of property, according to the Alabaster Police Department on Wednesday.
Nicholas Whitfield, of Alabaster, has been doing business as Nick's Auto Repair. Alabaster police stated they started investigating Whitfield after complaints about Whitfield's business practices.
"When there are multiple complaints, with similar situations, something's going on," Alabaster Police Detective Brewer said in a statement. "If it's criminal activity, we're going to prosecute."
Whitfield is being held in the Shelby County Jail under no bond. Those convicted on a count of first-degree theft of property, which is a class B felony, could face up to 20 years imprisonment and $30,000 in fines.
Alabaster police are continuing to investigate Whitfield and stated more charges could be filed. Those with information regarding Whitfield's possible crimes are urged to call the Alabaster Police Criminal Investigations Division at 205-664-6850.
