HUEYTOWN, Ala. (WIAT) -- Before we kick off the last week of the regular season for high school football, we're looking back at last Friday, when the Hueytown Golden Gophers continued to remain unbeaten thanks to a big-time performance from CBS 42's Athlete of the Week.
This week's Athlete of the Week is Hueytown running back AJ Robinson.
In their 28-7 win over Central Tuscaloosa, the junior running back recorded 232 yards on the ground to go along with his two touchdowns in the win.
Robinson also had a pair of catches for 20 or more yards on the ground to help the Gophers move to 6-0 in region play.
Hueytown will close out their regular season at Pinson Valley on Friday.
"At the beginning of this year I wasn't really performing as well as I would say I am now," Robinson said. "I wasn't in a great place, I'd say, on the field, as I am now, so I think I've grown a lot and become a bit more mature and a better leader, and I've worked on myself a lot more than I was at the beginning of the season."
Greg Patterson, Hueytown's head football coach, said, "AJ's one of those, he just wants the ball in his hand late in the game, and he just, you know, runs behind his shoulder pads really well, really physical runner, blocks well, but just, for him to just have that it-factor, he wants to be the guy."
