NORTHPORT, Ala. (WIAT) — Joe Barger, the man who owned and ran one of Tuscaloosa County's oldest and most respected restaurants for 50 years, will be buried at Piney Woods Cemetery after dying earlier this week.
Barger, who bought City Cafe in 1974 and kept the Northport eatery a family-run business to this day, died Monday after being in hospice care for several weeks. He was 75.
There will be a funeral at 2 p.m. Friday at Piney Woods Cemetery in Northport, located on Hwy. 69 North. In the obituary posted by Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home, Barger's family said that all are welcome to come and celebrate his life.
"Joe liked everything plain and simple," the obituary read. "Please wear your City Cafe T-shirts, or just be comfortable and casual."
In his honor, City Cafe has been closed this week as family and employees mourn.
