The streak of 32 days with no rain in Birmingham has ended this evening. We picked up rain at the Birmingham airport just a few hours before the end of the day.

Tonight, the cold front will slowly move into Central Alabama and stall. We will have scattered showers and thunderstorms for areas mainly along and north of I-20. Parts of NW Alabama could receive over 1 inch of rain. Lows will be in the middle 60s.

The cold front will stall over North Alabama on Friday and weaken. It will be mostly cloudy with a few showers. Areas along and north of I-20 could see some rain, including Birmingham. Areas south of I-20 will stay dry. Unfortunately, Central Alabama will not receive much-needed rain and the drought conditions will worsen. It will be a tad cooler with highs around 80.

Weekend Outlook: High pressure will build north of Alabama this weekend. Southerly winds will make it warmer, with plenty of sunshine. We will have near-record high temperatures in the lower 80s. The record high on Saturday is 85 in 2003, and Sunday is 84 set in 2016.

Next Week's Outlook: The week will start dry and unseasonably warm as high pressure sits NE of Alabama. Possible record highs in the lower 80s are expected. A cold front will move toward Alabama from the northwest on Wednesday with a few showers and near-record highs in the lower 80s. The front will move across Central Alabama on Thursday with spotty showers and near-record highs in the lower 80s. We will dry out on Friday with highs still in the 80s.
