MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) – On Monday, Alabama GOP Delegates cast their votes for Donald Trump as the Republican Nominee in the 2024 Presidential Election.
Attendees said the energy was at an all-time high at the Republican National Convention, especially after Trump announced his vice presidential pick: Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio).
"The electricity was so thick in the room you could cut it with a knife," State Rep. Mack Butler (R-Gadsden) said. "You've got a 39-year-old former Marine, Yale law school [graduate]. This guy's got the full package. I think he compliments the ticket greatly."
"I think if anything, he's more electrified than ever," said State Sen. Keith Kelley (R- Anniston). "And that's saying quite a bit for President Trump."
Sen. Kelley said the Alabama delegation has prayed for the family of those killed at the Trump rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. He says more than ever, the Republican Party is united behind President Trump.
"Sen. Tuberville, rather, is going to be casting some votes for us for the Alabama delegation," said Kelley. "But President Trump is in town. We've talked with him, and he is fired up and ready to get this thing going."
Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen said he has spoken with leaders from across the country about election integrity and security.
"It's about relationships, it's about focusing on those things that are real in our lives," said Allen. "Reflecting on what we can learn from this moment in our nation and focusing our faith. As a country, I would hope that we could come together."
Kelley asks everyone to pray for the delegation and the country.
"It's a unique time in our country. And the security around here has been a lot, and that's sad when you have to have that type of security that we've had," said Kelley. But that's where we're at. So now we've got to unify everyone, and get everybody back on track."
