BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Week 8 of the college football season featured two big games in the SEC that saw Alabama and Texas fall.
No. 1 Texas had its welcome to the SEC moment when it took on No. 5 Georgia in Austin. The Bulldogs took down the Longhorns on their home field despite three turnovers from quarterback Carson Beck. The Bulldog defense shut down the Texas offense in the first half, holding it to zero points. Texas rallied in the third quarter, scoring 15 points, but its efforts came up short, losing, 30-15.
No. 7 Alabama traveled to Knoxville for the "Third Saturday in October" against No. 11 Tennessee. Similar to the Texas game, the Alabama defense held the Volunteers to zero first half points. Alabama, however, could not capitalize off three turnovers by Tennessee, leaving the game at 7-0 at halftime. The Vol offense woke up in the second half, and the Tide offense struggled all game. Tennessee came away with the big victory, handing Alabama its second loss, 24-17.
